Hardscaping
Structures built to hold up, not just look good on install day
Our team brings real, hands-on construction experience to every hardscape project, alongside our landscaping background, and it shows in how we build: proper grading and drainage under every patio, engineered footings under every wall, and structures sized to actually carry the load they’re built for, not just pass a quick glance.
That matters more in this region than people realize. Southern Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland deal with heavy clay soil and real freeze-thaw cycles. Hardscaping that’s set correctly holds for decades. Hardscaping that isn’t heaves, cracks, and settles within a couple of winters.
Our Mission Statement
At From The Ground Up, our mission is to design and build outdoor living spaces that provide our customers with the atmosphere to create everlasting memories with their family.
Hardscaping Services We Offer
Patio Design & Build
Pavers, natural stone, or stamped concrete, built with the grading and drainage worked out before the first stone goes down, not fixed after the fact. We’ve built patios paired with covered structures, like a flagstone patio and patio covering in Red Lion, PA, and patios with built-in seating, like a flagstone patio with a sitting wall in Parkton, MD, where the wall was built as part of the patio design instead of added on afterward.
Walkways
Flagstone, pavers, or brick, laid out to actually guide how people move through the yard rather than just connect point A to point B. Every joint and edge is set with the same attention as the patios they usually lead to.
Fire Features
Fire pits for casual nights outside, and outdoor fireplaces for a more built-in, permanent feature. Both are built into the surrounding hardscape rather than dropped in as a standalone kit.
Retaining Walls
This is where our construction experience matters most. A retaining wall is a structural project first and a design feature second: it has to manage real soil pressure and drainage, not just look good. We assess the site, engineer the wall for its actual load, and choose materials, natural stone, segmental block, or custom masonry, based on what the slope and soil actually need.
Outdoor Kitchens
From a simple grill station to a full layout with counters, storage, and a sink. Built with weather-resistant materials and tied into the patio it sits on so the whole space reads as one structure instead of a kitchen bolted onto an existing slab.
Why Homeowners Choose Us
One crew, every phase. The team that grades your yard is the same team that builds your retaining wall and sets your patio stone. Nothing gets handed to a sub who wasn’t part of the original conversation about what you wanted.
Built for this ground. We design and construct for the clay soil and freeze-thaw conditions specific to Southern PA and Northern Maryland.
We listen, and we adjust. Plans change once you see the layout staked out in your own yard. We’d rather get it right than rush to finish.
“Trey and his crew installed a stone paver patio for us. It is absolutely beautiful and Trey and his guys were wonderful to work with. They answered all of our questions, made suggestions and didn’t mind when I wanted to make some changes. If you want a professional, talented, hard working team to do your next project, Trey and his guys are the ones to call“

Let’s Build Something Great Together
If you’re picturing a fire pit for fall nights, a retaining wall for a slope that’s been bothering you, or a full outdoor kitchen and patio setup, the next step is a walkthrough of your actual yard with the crew that’s going to build it, not a sales rep who hands it off later.
We serve Spring Grove, PA and surrounding communities throughout Southern Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland.
