Deck Design Services

Deck Resurfacing and Upgrades

If your current deck is structurally sound but looks worn out or outdated, resurfacing is a smart and cost-effective way to give it new life. We replace old, splintered boards with modern, low-maintenance materials and add upgrades that enhance both appearance and function.

Our Deck Resurfacing Services Include:

  • Replacing worn deck boards with composite or PVC materials
  • Reinforcing existing substructures if needed
  • Adding new railing systems, staircases, and trim
  • Customizing your space with improved layouts or extended platforms

This option allows you to modernize your deck without the cost and time of a full rebuild.

Deck Lighting and Accessories

Lighting and Accessories

Add style and safety to your deck with professionally installed lighting and thoughtful accessories. A well-lit deck is inviting at any hour and makes your outdoor space more usable after sunset.

Deck Lighting and Add-On Features:

  • Post Cap and Riser Lights: Illuminate steps and pathways for safety and ambiance
  • Under-Rail Lighting: Add a soft glow without disrupting sight lines
  • Built-In Seating and Planters: Maximize functionality and comfort
  • Decorative Railings: Choose from sleek modern styles or classic wood details

Accessories and finishing touches make your deck feel like a true outdoor living room.

Deck Additions & Features

Outdoor Features and Custom Additions

Take your outdoor space to the next level by integrating features that enhance comfort, privacy, and style. At From The Ground Up, we can incorporate a wide range of outdoor living features into your deck project.

Our Deck Design and Build Process in New Freedom, PA

Building a deck correctly means thinking past the surface. The decking boards homeowners see are the last thing we install. Before that, we work through framing, ledger attachment, footings, and load calculations, because a deck that looks great but was built on undersized footings or with the wrong ledger connection is a liability, not an asset. Our team is trained and certified by both TimberTech/Azek and Trex, and our process reflects the standard those certifications hold us to.

How We Plan Your Deck Project

Full Design with Drawings and Material Selection

For new deck builds and multi-level projects, we develop full structural drawings and a materials plan that covers everything from footing size and framing layout to the decking pattern, railing system, and stair configuration. You see the complete picture before anything is ordered.

A Site Plan and Written Estimate

For deck resurfacing, straightforward new builds, and projects with a defined footprint, a site walkthrough and detailed written estimate gives us both a clear scope to work from. Material samples for decking and railing options are part of this conversation.

From First Call to Final Walkthrough

Step 1: Reach Out

Call, email, or fill out our contact form.

Step 2: Talk Through Your Project With Sam

Sam will learn about your goals, whether you are building new, resurfacing, or adding features, and walk you through the project planner so budget expectations are set before Trey visits.

Step 3: Meet Trey On Site

Trey reviews the existing structure or the build site, talks through layout, elevation, material options, and code considerations for your municipality, and recommends the right planning path.

Step 4: Review Your Design and Estimate

For new builds, you receive structural drawings, a material spec sheet, and a detailed estimate. For resurfacing projects, you receive a written scope and sample selections. Both are available online or in a follow-up meeting.

Step 5: Approve and Lock In Your Schedule

A deposit invoice confirms your spot on the build schedule. Composite decking materials are ordered at this stage, since lead times on some products require advance planning.

Step 6: Crew Leader Site Visit

Before construction begins, your crew leader reviews the framing plan, confirms footing locations, and plans access and material staging.

Step 7: Progress Updates During the Build

We check in when footings and framing are complete, when decking installation begins, and when railing and trim work is underway. For multi-level or phased builds, we communicate at each transition.

Step 8: Final Inspection and Walkthrough

When the deck is complete and the site is clean, we walk the finished structure with you, covering the railing connections, stair details, and any features or accessories installed.

Step 9: Maintenance Guidance

You will receive written care instructions for your specific decking material, including cleaning schedules, what to avoid, and how to protect your warranty.

Photo Suggestions for This Page

  • Completed composite deck with railing system: Multi-level layout preferred. Shoot from a low angle looking across the deck surface toward the house so material quality and railing detail both read clearly.
  • Material close-up showing composite quality: Tight shot of the decking surface and a railing post or cap detail up close. This is where the quality of Trex or TimberTech justifies its cost in a way a wide shot cannot.
  • Framing in progress: Photo during the framing phase showing the structural skeleton before decking boards are installed. The single most trust-building photo a deck builder can use. Shows the work that determines whether the deck is actually safe.
  • Lighting or accessory detail at dusk: If any project has post cap lights, riser lights, or under-rail lighting installed, a dusk photo communicates year-round usability and performs well with homeowners evaluating the investment.
  • Before and after pairing: An old splintered wood deck next to a clean composite replacement is one of the clearest value demonstrations in the deck category and speaks directly to the resurfacing audience.
